Open prairie, wind and few mature trees
Pflugerville is flat and open compared with the hills to the west, with SH-130 and FM 685 running through it and plenty of land still being developed. Fewer big trees means less leaf debris on roofs, but it also means less shade, so shingles take the full summer sun and wind sweeps across the roofline.
The soil is part of the blackland prairie, an expansive clay. As it swells and shrinks, foundations can shift slightly, and movement can strain the points where the roof meets brick or siding. Storms that roll across the open ground can arrive quickly, and hail often leaves roofs in whole subdivisions damaged at once.
